What it is

Mobile Device Management (MDM) is a security and administration approach used to control, configure, and protect mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops that access organisational systems. MDM platforms enforce security policies, manage device settings, and allow remote actions like locking or wiping devices.

Why it matters

With remote and hybrid work, unmanaged or poorly managed devices become a major attack vector. Lost devices, outdated operating systems, or unauthorised apps can lead to data leakage, credential theft, and unauthorised access to internal systems.

How to reduce risk

  • Enforce device enrollment for all work-related mobile access.
  • Require screen locks, encryption, and OS updates.
  • Restrict installation of unapproved applications.
  • Enable remote wipe for lost or stolen devices.
